Cinema already making history in 2015
On 15 February 2015, Ster-Kinekor achieved its biggest box office record for a single day in the company’s recorded history, beating a previous box office record by 47%. This year, flagged as the year that cinema goes down in the books, is already showing that with blockbuster hits lined-up, expectations could well be exceeded.
The Valentine’s Day screenings of the much-anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey, shattered Ster-Kinekor records, before 2015 had even kicked off properly.
“At the moment we are realising a manifestation of the anticipated success for several titles this year, Fifty Shades is the second thus far. With a movie line-up of proven blockbuster instalments, advertisers should be questioning why cinema is not on their media flow plans,” explains Cinemark’s Yvonne Diogo.
With some of the biggest movie instalments in the history of cinema being released throughout the year, the 2015 movie line-up includes everything from huge franchises to titles from the most famous of directors. If there was ever a year to invest in cinema as a marketing platform,2015 is the year of cinema.
Movie Minds research conducted in March 2014 confirms that 73% of cinema-goers enjoy the advertising and consider it to be part of the movie experience. “It is not only the onscreen opportunity that is available to advertisers but a whole myriad of touch points, which make up the cinema journey. Is your brand leveraging the epic Fast & Furious 7 through cinema advertising or will it be Mission Impossible 5?” Diogo asks.
Other block-buster hits on the silver screen this year include Terminator: Genisys, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Jurassic World.
